As preparations for Hurricane Milton continue, we urge you to finalize your plans, secure your property and get ready to hunker down. Per recent weather reports, we anticipate this storm to be intense and there are risks of localized flooding and high wind damage in the area.
The city’s Emergency Operations Center will move to a Level 1 Full Activation tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9 at 4 p.m. What this means:
* The Citizen Information Line will go live – you can call this number to report problems, damages, etc. Call 407.246.HELP (4357)
* All updates will be posted to orlando.gov/storm (https://www.orlando.gov/Storm-Tracking-Milton?mc_cid=7fa2ed3107&mc_eid=UNIQID) and to the city’s social media accounts
GARBAGE, YARD WASTE AND RECYCLING PICKUP
On Wednesday, October 9, all residential garbage is suspended. The makeup day will be Friday, October 11. Residential recycling will be picked up on the next service day.
Anything not picked up, please collect it, bag and bundle it (for yard waste) and secure it near your home.
Commercial operations will resume Friday, October 11, as well as the residential makeup day for residential garbage.
WATER CONSERVATION
With the amount of rain predicted to come into our area, it’s imperative that we all limit water usage before and during Hurricane Milton whenever possible, including:
* Limit the amount of toilet flushing
* Abstain from running dishwashers and washing machines
* Limit the amount of water used during a shower or the amount to fill the bathtub
* Turn off irrigation
CLOSURES
City Hall and all non-essential city services will be closed Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10. This includes neighborhood centers and parks. Continue to visit orlando.gov/storm to view up-to-date information on more closures and/or re-openings.
PARKING
Beginning at 6 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9, four downtown parking garages will be waiving parking fees during the storm.
* Central Boulevard Garage, 53 West Central Boulevard
* Jefferson Street Garage, 62 West Jefferson Street
* Library Garage, 112 East Central Boulevard
* Orange County Administration Garage, 300 Liberty Avenue
This is for passenger vehicles only and height restrictions must be adhered to. No oversized vehicles, campers, boats, trailers, watercraft, etc. will be permitted to enter.
All cars should be removed by 12 p.m. Friday, October. 11, dependent on weather and road conditions.
