We joined the Orange County History Center to cut the ribbon on their latest exhibition, Orlando Collected, as part of Orlando's 150th anniversary celebration. Curated from the collection of the Historical Society of Central Florida, in collaboration with individuals and organizations throughout the community, Orlando Collected marks the city’s 150th anniversary with the exhibition of 150 of the most fascinating and rarely seen items from Orlando’s history.

Don't miss out on the chance to experience Orlando’s story as told through the objects and images preserved to mark our 150-year journey. Check out the exhibit now through January 11, 2026.

** More funding to support ending homelessness
------------------------------------------------------------

We're taking further action to help people experiencing homelessness. City Council recently approved $875,000 in additional Rapid Unsheltered Survivor Housing (RUSH) funds, under the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) Program, for the Christian Service Center to provide rapid rehousing, emergency shelter and street outreach.

This is the city’s third award of RUSH ESG funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. With our first allocation, we worked with the Christian Service Center to help 110 families (144 adults and 112 children) find homes through family reunification, move-in help, temporary housing, and help with rent and bills. Then again with the second allocation of funds, which has helped 114 families, including 150 adults and 58 children, to date.

Everyone deserves a place to call home. We're working with our regional partners on the solution to ending homelessness: more affordable housing and a services-first approach that preserves safety and respects the law.

** The artistic flare in Ivanhoe
------------------------------------------------------------

Driving past Swanson's Ivanhoe Row, you've likely seen the large two-story mural of a tattooed black and blue plague doctor and a collection of painted doors that grow as you ascend the black staircase situated along the doctor’s back. Ever wonder where that door leads?

Opening the door at the end of the stairs leads you into The East Tattoo, owned by Orlando locals Steve Roberts and Earl Funk (who painted that epic mural outside). As lifetime artists, tattooing was always the path they planned to take and have now both been tattooing for more than 20 years. Steve and Earl opened The East Tattoo in 2015 in a small private studio in another space on Swanson’s Ivanhoe Row, with the vision of the two friends having a quiet studio where they could focus on their art and offer clients a personalized experience. With differing schedules, the two ended up rarely being in the studio with clients at the same time and realized they were happier and felt more inspired when they could be creating in the presence of other artists.

After adding a few more artists to their studio, by year two the team had outgrown their small space. Soon, a “for rent” sign popped up on the building next door. The team moved in, and since then has grown to 12 artists who specialize in a variety of tattoo styles and have clients coming in from around the world.
