We believe in the power and creativity of our residents and non-profits to address challenges, build communities and develop relationships with fellow neighbors, community partners and local businesses. To support these ventures, the Mayor’s Matching Grant program, now in its 30th year, partners with neighborhood associations, schools, and non-profit organizations to fund projects that address neighborhood needs, improve education and build community pride.

This year, grants will support a variety of exciting projects, including funding for neighborhood revitalization projects, support for local arts organizations like the Orlando Fringe, initiatives to improve student achievement, projects focused on green initiatives like tree planting and clean energy solutions and programs that promote healthy lifestyles and addressing food insecurity.

Kimberly Hellstrom opened The Lovely in 2014 after leaving a 20+ year career in marketing and radio. When she began her career, the radio field was still very much made up of a few small stations that catered to their equally small markets, giving each one a culture that felt much like a small business. As these small stations began to be purchased off by larger, corporate radio companies, that feeling of intimacy began to fade, but Kimberly knew her heart and future remained in small business.

While Kimberly loved radio, she also had a lifelong love of vintage goods and creating a space full of items that all have a story to tell. She was also driven by her desire to set an example for her daughters – that it’s never too late to pursue a new dream. Ten years after opening The Lovely, Kimberly’s shop is known among locals for its well organized and playful flow through different “nooks,” with areas of the shop set up to showcase furniture, clothing, accessories and home décor hailing from the 1960’s to the early 2000’s.
