** November 1, 2024
------------------------------------------------------------

** It's time to vote
------------------------------------------------------------

Whether it’s upgrading sewer lines, adding more fire houses, building more playgrounds, prioritizing affordable housing, establishing better opportunities for youth, etc., it all comes down to you, the voter. This is your city, your county, your state, your country.

Your vote matters and determines how we, the government, plan and implement services and programming. Your civic duty is awaiting you.

Get more information on early voting, sample ballots, voting locations and more at ocfelections.com. And after November 5, let’s get those election signs down and recycled (https://www.orlando.gov/Events/Election-Sign-Recycling-2024?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=6b57c17fe5-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-6b57c17fe5-80648119&mc_cid=6b57c17fe5&mc_eid=UNIQID) !

** Storm debris pickup continues
------------------------------------------------------------

A friendly reminder – if your storm debris is next to a mailbox, tree or under power lines, and/or there is a car blocking the pile - our crews won’t be able to pick it up. So, help us help you – if you need more tips on the best way to create ‘pick-upable’ debris piles, check out orlando.gov/yardwaste (https://www.orlando.gov/Storm-Recovery-Milton/Hurricane-Milton-Debris-Removal-Updates?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=6b57c17fe5-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-6b57c17fe5-80648119&mc_cid=6b57c17fe5&mc_eid=UNIQID) .

** Go solar
------------------------------------------------------------

We’ve again partnered with Solar United Neighbors (SUN) to bring Solar Switch, a program for residents that’s an easy and affordable opportunity to go solar by joining a solar co-op. From the last co-op, Orlando residents’ and businesses’ energy savings were more than $2 million for 21 installed units.

Joining the co-op is free, and it allows those interested in a solar system to install one at a lower cost. Bonus: SUN experts support you through each stage of the process and provide educational workshops.

Let's create a better, more sustainable future for Orlando, together.

** Bringing the galaxy to us locals
------------------------------------------------------------

Last night, extraterrestrials from a galaxy far, far away finally found their opportunity to sneak in and take up permanent residence among the earthlings of Orlando. But don’t worry, our new intergalactic friends mean no harm. In fact, they’ve arrived with year-round treats in hand.

As you explore downtown, you’re now likely to stumble upon Alien Treats, owned by Jeremy Frandin and his business partner Chanda Napier, where you can enjoy out-of-this-world milkshakes and freeze-dried candies. Before becoming a small business owner, Jeremy and Chanda owned commercial space in Georgia, while serving as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance at the University of Central Florida. A couple approached Jeremy and Chanda looking to lease their space in Georgia for a space-themed dessert shop called “Alien Treats,” and it quickly became clear to Jeremy that outer space, milkshakes and freeze-dried candies have an astronomical following.

Back in Florida and looking to set up a future with his fiancé, Jeremy took a galactic leap of faith, left his job at the university, and began working to launch the second Alien Treats in the South Eola neighborhood of downtown Orlando. The areas strong family-friendly climate, coupled with the community-centered small business support from Thornton Park District made the 101 South Eola Drive location the ideal place to take launch. For more information on what you’ll find at Alien Treats, visit alientreatsfl.com.

P.S., your furry four-legged aliens are also welcome!
