City News: Best Place to Find Dates?

News from the City of Orlando

** February 14, 2025
------------------------------------------------------------

The best place to find dates is at the grocery store. * ba-dum-ching

All kidding aside, you should be out and about this Valentine’s weekend. Not only will the weather be pleasant, but you might find some new friends, a hobby or even maybe that special someone.
https://www.facebook.com/keeporlandobeautiful/posts/pfbid0HDbJZYtJBbwkLzjZaciMWsdePnsigJZeDSV29fnuwU72GLSiq9LYqfNJJH3oWxCFl?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=fac9773987-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-fac9773987-80648119&mc_cid=fac9773987&mc_eid=UNIQID

** Meet-Cute with your sustainability soul mate
------------------------------------------------------------

Keep Orlando Beautiful has a goal of collecting 1,000 pounds of soft plastics – grocery bags, bubble wrap, bread bags, cereal bags, etc. - to celebrate our 150th anniversary! (https://www.orlando.gov/Our-Government/History/150-Anniversary?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=fac9773987-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-fac9773987-80648119&mc_cid=fac9773987&mc_eid=UNIQID)

Get rid of those annoying bags (stuffed inside other bags probably) and help us make a bench that is completely made out of these recycled plastics. Once we reach 1,000 pounds, we will receive a bench made from recycled plastic that will be commemorated on July 31 for Orlando's 150th Anniversary!

So, grab your soft plastic stash and head over to our drop off. You might just bump into someone who will put hearts (or recycling symbols) in your eyes.

Drop-off Information:
Weekdays, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
1010 Woods Avenue

** Delve into your love of history and art
------------------------------------------------------------

The arts are an intrinsic part of Black heritage and culture, for this reason, we're showcasing the diverse richness of African American history and heritage through the visual arts.

The Black History Month Art Exhibit art pieces, created by 32 local visual artists, are inspired by this year’s national Black History Month theme, “African Americans and Labor,” which focuses on the various and profound ways works of all kinds – free and unfree, skilled and unskilled, professional, vocational and voluntary – intersect with the collective experiences of Black culture.

The exhibition is available through March 30, 2025. We also invite the community to join us to meet the artists on February 26 to learn more about the journeys of the exhibiting artists and their creative process.

** But what about next weekend?
------------------------------------------------------------

Friends, yes, this a fun “holiday” weekend, but NEXT weekend will be fun too! Make sure you’re ready for all the fun you’re about to have.

Orlando Wetlands Festival (https://www.orlando.gov/Events/Orlando-Wetlands-Festival-2025?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=fac9773987-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-fac9773987-80648119&mc_cid=fac9773987&mc_eid=UNIQID)

Head over to the Orlando Wetlands on February 22 and enjoy all that nature has to offer. Educational exhibits, tram tours, activities and more will be available.

IMMERSE (https://creativecityproject.ticketspice.com/immerse-fest-2025?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=fac9773987-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-fac9773987-80648119&mc_cid=fac9773987&mc_eid=UNIQID)

From February 21 to 23, 10 city blocks in downtown Orlando will be filled with performing and interactive arts experiences. This collaboration with artists creates meaningful and epic experiences audiences can’t have anywhere else in the world, with live performances, immersive art installations and unexpected creative moments.

And don’t forget, this does mean road closures! Keep an eye out for detours for not only downtown, but also your route to downtown, like the Robinson Street and Summerlin Avenue intersection closure.

** Love is in the slice
------------------------------------------------------------

There’s nothing better than singing “That’s Amore” in our best Dean Martin impersonation and enjoying pizza and Italian fare with a well-paired red wine on a cozy restaurant patio situated along the charming historic brick streets of downtown. *Chef’s kiss!

Anthony’s Thornton Park, established in 1998, has been a dining destination for nearly 30 years. While the city has grown, owner Eri Lulo and his team focused on maintaining exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere that appeals to all ages.

If you’ve been keeping up with us the past few weeks, you know the city and OUC launched what we like to call a glow-up along Summerlin Avenue. But don't let the nearby construction deter you! Anthony's remains easily accessible with ample parking available in their lot, on surrounding streets, and at the nearby Thornton Park Central Garage (entrances at 22 North Summerlin Avenue and 9 North Eola Drive). For budget-friendly travel, use RideDTO (https://www.downtownorlando.com/Parking-Getting-Around/Ride-DTO?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=fac9773987-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-fac9773987-80648119&mc_cid=fac9773987&mc_eid=UNIQID) for just $1 or utilize the ParkMobile app with code "ParkDTO" (https://www.downtownorlando.com/Parking-Getting-Around/Parking/parkdto?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=fac9773987-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-fac9773987-80648119&mc_cid=fac9773987&mc_eid=UNIQID) for free parking at on-street spaces.

So, if you’re looking for your next date night with your forever Valentine or Galentines, a family dinner that can satisfy every palate, or you’re just craving those Italian vibes, visit Anthony’s Thornton Park at 100 North Summerlin Avenue.
