By the time November rolls around, we’re more inclined to just ignore what’s going on in the tropics. Yet, here we are, being reminded by Mother Nature, and the all-knowing spaghetti string models, that it’s still a very active situation.

Yes, we’re still picking up debris from Milton (https://www.orlando.gov/Storm-Recovery-Milton/Hurricane-Milton-Debris-Removal-Updates?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=7dcd7b0b86-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-7dcd7b0b86-80648119&mc_cid=7dcd7b0b86&mc_eid=UNIQID) (so far more than 50 million pounds worth!), but if this storm decides to pay us a visit, our pickup timeline is going to change.

What does this mean for you?

If all of your debris has not been picked up before this storm hits, please secure your debris as best you can to make sure no loose items are on the curb.
* Move what you can closer to your home

* Secure smaller pieces by bagging or bundling to avoid storm drain blockages

Also, maybe forgo this weekend’s landscaping chores.... take a little siesta instead. And maybe, just maybe, it will evaporate into nothing, and we can all go back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Follow us on social and on orlando.gov for storm updates on services, alerts and more.

** We're here for a trashy art scene
------------------------------------------------------------

Do you want to express your talent through a unique design with purpose? Help support Keep Orlando Beautiful and the local community by submitting your fashion design for the 2025 Trash 2 Trends.

Trash 2 Trends is a fundraiser that brings fashion and art together with the environmental community to promote sustainability in an innovative way.

Designers create looks from items headed to the landfill, these designs are featured on a runway, and the money raised by this event goes right back into the Orlando community to increase recycling, prevent litter and beautify our neighborhoods, green spaces and business districts.

Ready to ditch the boring and embrace the extraordinary? Submit your trash-sterpiece by December 16, 2024.

** We’re here for the existential/mortality questioning art too
------------------------------------------------------------

Step into Earth’s Last Picture, a solo exhibit by Dan L. Hess, presented by The City of Orlando Public Art Program and Snap! Orlando. Explore life, death and nature through Hess’s captivating work.

Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s When Earth’s Last Picture is Painted, this exhibit explores the bond between art and life’s transitions. Hess’s work invites you into a space between beginnings and endings, filled with introspection and beauty.

Free admission, open through Jan 26, 2025, at City Hall Terrace Gallery.

** An engaged resident is an informed resident
------------------------------------------------------------

Our city’s strength and resiliency is tied to the involvement of informed residents. We're excited to share that 55 of some of our most engaged residents recently graduated from the 2024 Mayor's City Academy.

The 12-week program took the Class of 2024 participants behind-the-scenes of Orlando's government where they had the opportunity to explore hidden city gems, meet the people who make Orlando run and become an expert on city programs.

Congratulations graduates!

** We’re abuzz with flowery feelings
------------------------------------------------------------

As we enter the season of giving, one gift that never goes out of style is flowers. Whether you’re sending a bouquet to someone expressing love, celebration, sympathy or another sentiment, or using floral arrangements as a way to bring an event venue to life, you are giving others the gift of joy and natural beauty.

It’s the way flowers convey these emotions and tell stories that inspired Bobby Belanger to bring Golden Bee Fleurs to Ivanhoe Village. As long as Bobby can remember, his life and career choices have been led by opportunities to create experiences that evoke positive feelings for his clients. Before entering the world of florals, Bobby spent many years in the culinary arts and as a hair stylist. At their core, these skills all require the following to be successful – attention to detail, artistry and being highly in-tune with the desires and needs of the client.

With his experience, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in hand, Bobby began his new adventure as a small business owner and found the charming, historic 1939 cottage-esque building in the heart of the Ivanhoe Village Main Street. Bobby loves the neighborhood’s authenticity, support for local businesses, dynamic atmosphere and overall warmth. To visit Golden Bee Fleurs, head to 1826 North Orange Avenue or go to thegoldenbeefleurs.com.
