Orlando is a place where history is being made every day. But the stories that truly define us are the personal ones that capture the spirit of our community.
As part of our 150th anniversary we want you to share your Orlando history with us. Whether it's beautiful architecture of your family's old Florida home, the legacy of a local business, a cherished memory from an Orlando event or experience, or a glimpse into the city's vibrant cultural community, we want to hear from you.
Share your written narratives, photographs, articles, newspaper clippings, and any other materials that tell the story of your Orlando. Your contributions will be featured on our community history board throughout the year.

** Nothing says “I love you” like buying local
------------------------------------------------------------
For all the book girlies out there living in your best romantasy/enemies-to-lovers era, consider The New Romantics bookstore your new home. The New Romantics is owned by Jane Rodriquez, an entrepreneur, avid reader, hopeless romantic and Swiftie (queue “New Romantics” from 1989 album) who has always known opening a romance bookstore was her ultimate dream. Jane is originally from Miami, and moved to California to attend college, but returned to Florida in 2020 during the pandemic and began her own remote business helping other women launch their own business ideas. Simultaneously, Jane worked on building The New Romantics brand, online shop and following on social media, so when the time was right to open a brick-and-mortar bookstore, she would already have an established business and community.
Like many, the isolation of the pandemic led Jane to look for opportunities to leave the house and reconnect. To do this, she took a job at Gideon’s Cookies inside of East End Market, which positioned her across the street from the then Joybird Books independent bookstore. When the owners of Joybird Books decided to close, Jane knew The New Romantics’ time had come. The New Romantics has only been open two months but is already attracting book lovers from across central Florida through its door.
